HANLIN, HARRIS AND HERRERA HEADLINE APRIL’S SONGWRITERS IN SONOMA
SONOMA, CA—Singer-songwriters Chris Hanlin, Arann Harris and Carlos Herrera will overwhelm your musical senses on Thursday, April 14th at 7 p.m. as a part of the Meadowcroft Wines “Songwriters In Sonoma” music series. The show takes place in the Meadowcroft tasting room at 23574 Arnold Drive/Highway 121 in the Cornerstone Sonoma complex. Tickets are $10 per person and include a glass of wine. This is a 21 and over show. The Songwriters In Sonoma series is booked and hosted by Gerard Serafini, owner of Sonoma Valley Music store, and is sponsored by MusicNomad.com and Sonoma Valley Music.
With three distinct musical styles, the show truly promises something for everyone. Carlos Herrera heads up the Carlos Herrera Band, combining World Music and Latin Music. His five piece band is a blending of local musicians from Sonoma County, Costa Rica and Havana. The music is a mix of Gypsy jazz, Latin jazz, Salsa and Cuban. As a solo performer, the emphasis will be on his songs and his spectacular guitar playing.
Arann Harris also leads a band, Arann Harris and the Farm Band. According to Arann, “we make pesticide free music, no overdubs, no edits. RAW.” He goes on to say “American music, ruff edges, old time new school folk. Songs about skunks, corn, sad clowns and mean people.” And concludes with “Organic farming is not new, it has just been rediscovered…our music is the same.”
The sole solo performer of the evening is Chris Hanlin. His latest CD “Hand To Mouth” was released in January. Working in Southern California in the ‘90s, Chris eventually met and befriended members of the Lakota Sioux tribe and soon was living on a reservation in South Dakota. While there, he was told by the medicine man to write and play music. He moved to Sonoma Mountain, began working on the songs, and over the course of a year, “Hand To Mouth” was completed.
Meadowcroft Wines (www.meadowcroftwines.com) includes the Meadowcroft, Magito and Thomas Henry labels. Winemaker Tom Meadowcroft also makes the wines for the Foyt Family Wines (www.foytfamilywines.com). There are presently 16 wines being poured at the tasting room including the just released 2008 Meadowcroft Sangiovese, the 2008 Meadowcroft Zinfandel and the 2008 Thomas Henry Zinfandel. The tasting room is part of the Cornerstone Sonoma complex that features 22 world class gardens, a gourmet café, art galleries and cutting edge design shops all set among acres of vineyards.
